Monk's Pear Fruit (dried)
DrChen Patika Oriental Herbs
EU €5.91

3 dried monk's fruits

Main ingredient:
dried Siraitia grosvenorii
aka "luo han guo" - literally meaningt "arhat fruit" or "monk's fruit" (monks fruit - monks pear)

Uses and administration: Prepare infusion of the dried food. Draw half of a fruit in 1,5 l of hot water and steep it for 15 minutes. If it is too sweet, dilute it. For the whole family, use the whole of 1 fruit. Cut fruit in half, and pour 3 litres of boiling water over the halves. You can also use the fruit as a sweetener for cooking, and overboiling the infusion makes for a sweet syrup.

This very sweet fruit, Siraitia grosvenorii, crops in a beautiful tropical environment surrounded by ancient mountains. It has been used in China for thousands of years, though in the beginning consuming this fruit was only the privilege of Chinese emperors. This fruit can be used as a substitute for sugar and even syrup can be made of it by overboiling the infusion. The sweet taste is due to mogrosides (a group of triterpene-glycosides) that can be found in the flesh of the fruit. It can be used as a substitute for sugar for diabetes patients, or during a slimming diet even for cooking. In case of increased thirst, it is suggested to drink the infusion upon refrigeration.
