Green mussels gained the focus of attention when upon researching the living conditions of the Maori (New Zealand natives), it was found that despite their age, their joints remained flexible which was due to the abundant consumption of mussels. Rheumatic problems and diseases were unkown among these people. As a result, the world began scientific research in relation to the New Zealand green mussels. It has been proved that the green mussel contains more than 13% glucosamine, as well as containing silicic acid, vitamins, minerals, and essential nutrients. It is also rich in omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids, which has an anti-inflammatory effect.Glucosamine serves as a lubricant to the joints, while silica strengthens the bones and connective tissues. Furthermore, it contains vitamins C, E, B6, B12 and folic acid, and the minerals calcium, potassium and magnesium.
