Green mussels gained the focus of attention when upon researching the living conditions of the Maori (New Zealand natives), it was found that despite their age, their joints remained flexible which was due to the abundant consumption of mussels. Rheumatic problems and diseases were unkown among these people. As a result, the world began scientific research in relation to the New Zealand green mussels. It has been proved that the green mussel contains more than 13% glucosamine, as well as containing silicic acid, vitamins, minerals, and essential nutrients. It is also rich in omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids, which has an anti-inflammatory effect.Glucosamine serves as a lubricant to the joints, while silica strengthens the bones and connective tissues. Furthermore, it contains vitamins C, E, B6, B12 and folic acid, and the minerals calcium, potassium and magnesium.
Locomotor diseaseas are considered an endemic of this day and age. In Hungary alone, several hundreds of thousands of people suffer from inflammatory joint diseases, joint diseases, attrition, and other locomotor diseases. This is because with the increase in age, the amount of fluid between the cells and the flexibility of tissues decreases, which in turn significantly reduces mobility. Since the body cannot produce glucosamine on its own, it is very important to replace it through foods/supplements. Although most foods contain it in small quantities, significant amounts can be found in the fruits of the sea, especially the New Zealand crested mussel (the blue mussel and other mussel types do not have this same effect). Mussel preparations have growing importance in the prevention and treatment of locomotor disorders.
