Recommended Intake: Soak 2-3 fruits in 1 liter of boiled water until they completely open up. The prepared tea may be flavored according to taste. Drink the prepared amount in several doses throughout the day. May also be consumed by children.
The Boat-fruited Sterculia Seed (Sterculiae lychnopherae semen) is found inside a specially formed fruit, which when soaked in water, swells to be much larger than it’s original size, and a soft spongy matter emerges. The Bencao Gangmu herbal Code also makes reference to the sterculia seed. According to this Code, it has was used centuries ago as a herb against fever, detoxification, and against constipation. Since then, scientific research has shown beneficial properties that assist in detoxification and heat dissipation, as well as stimulates intestinal movement. Traditional Chinese doctors still to this day use tea made from this fruit to disinfect the throat, against chronic sore throat and it’s accompanying symptoms such as hoarseness, fever, and headache. It may also be recommended to provide relief from dry lungs. |
